About

The Department of Horticulture vested with the responsibility of accelerating development of horticulture crops for improving nutritional, ecological and livelihood security and provide skill-based education in horticulture to young minds for entrepreneurship skill and generation of employability at grass root level. The Department of Horticulture at GDC Shopian is equipped with basic infrastructure including well-maintained laboratory and qualified resource personnel. We are committed to impart professional qualities and skill enhancement opportunities to its students. We welcome all students who have desire to excel in careers of horticulture science to join us.

Vision

To build an institution of excellence for learning in Horticulture with a purpose to create human resource capable of meeting present and future needs of horticulture-based farm science education, industry and other stake holders.

To impart skill-based education in horticulture to develop entrepreneurship and employability at grass root level.

To expand the reach of professional horticulture education.

Mission

Educate and train human resource at undergraduate and postgraduate levels in frontier areas of horticulture through excellence in education and skill up-gradation with intensive practical trainings.

Advanced research in elite areas of horticulture, dissemination of technology in coordination with state/central departments and institutions for sustainable growth of horticulture.

Creation of sound scientific base for research and extension education in horticulture.

Extension and dissemination of scientific information among the rural masses of the state as well as the farming community through region-specific transfer of technology modules.

Message from Head of the Department

Dear Students,
I welcome you all in the Department of Horticulture at Government Degree College Shopian. We are committed to provide you quality education based on New Education Policy required for present day horticulturist.
We impart and nurture our young minds with innovative skills and hi-tech horticulture techniques, which present era demands from us to boost quality horticulture production and productivity. With climate change looming around, livelihood of about 70 percent of our state population depends upon horticulture and allied sectors, we provide our students hands on training in the cultivation and management of different horticulture crops under different stress condition to mitigate the adverse effects in near future.
Our mission is develop human resource having critical thinking, leadership qualities and entrepreneurship skills for upliftment of horticulture sector in our country in general and in our state in particular.
