About

The Department of History, established in 1988, has blossomed into a dynamic centre for the exploration of regional, national, and global historical narratives. From its inception, the department has prioritized the enhancement of students' critical thinking skills, equipping them with vital abilities in articulation, creative expression, and leadership, all grounded in a rich historical consciousness. We offer a range of programmes, including History as a Major, Minor, Multi-disciplinary studies, and Value-Added Courses, covering a diverse array of time periods, geographical regions, and thematic areas, such as political, social, cultural, and economic history.
Each course is thoughtfully designed to facilitate a comprehensive understanding of the past, encouraging students to extract meaningful insights, evaluate contemporary issues, and derive important lessons for the future. Our instructional methods extend beyond traditional classroom learning; we incorporate tutorials, seminars, presentations, and lectures to foster active student engagement. This participatory approach not only enhances learning but also plays a critical role in the assessment process.
In addition to our academic offerings, the department organizes enriching field trips to various historical sites, archaeological locations, and museums. These excursions provide students with invaluable firsthand experiences of living history, allowing them to engage with the concepts of “change and continuity” in meaningful ways.
By bridging the gap between theoretical study and real-world application, the Department of History empowers students to appreciate the complexities of the past while equipping them with the skills necessary to navigate today's challenges. Our commitment to fostering a stimulating and inclusive learning environment ensures that students emerge well-prepared for diverse careers in academia, public service, and cultural heritage.
