Message from Head of the Department

Welcome to the Department of Commerce at Government Degree College, Shopian.
I am Dr. Mohammad Iqbal Dar, and it is my privilege to address our
community—students, faculty, and academic as well as industry partners.
Here, we prioritize more than just theoretical knowledge. Our curriculum is designed
to blend strong conceptual foundations with practical, real-world skills and ethical
considerations. We want our graduates to step confidently into today’s dynamic
business environment—equipped not only with academic understanding but with the
ability to apply it meaningfully.
Our department actively pursues collaborations with leading academic and industry
institutions. Through these, students can access internships, research opportunities,
structured placement programs, and even support for entrepreneurial ventures. We
believe these initiatives are vital for fostering innovation and self-reliance.
With nearly two decades of teaching experience, a Ph.D. in Commerce, and
numerous publications, I am committed to staying engaged with the latest trends in
commerce education and research.
Our dedicated faculty and evolving curriculum encourage critical thinking, leadership,
and social responsibility. We strive to create an inclusive environment where
students develop as capable professionals and conscientious citizens.
