The Department of Geology at Government Degree College (GDC) Shopian is dedicated to imparting quality education and fostering a research-driven understanding of Earth sciences. Offering a Bachelor of Science (BSc) in Geology, the department aims to equip students with a comprehensive grasp of the Earth's structure, materials, dynamic processes, and its evolving history and future. Emphasizing both theoretical foundations and hands-on training, the program prepares students for diverse careers in geoscience industries, environmental consulting, research, and academia.
Located in the geologically diverse region of Shopian, the department leverages the natural setting for effective field-based learning. The curriculum covers key areas such as mineralogy, petrology, structural geology, and environmental geoscience, enabling students to address pressing global and regional challenges like sustainable resource use, environmental conservation, and disaster risk reduction.
