About

Kashmiri language is among one of the oldest spoken languages in India. The constitution of India has recognized it as an official language under schedule 8. The language has preserved and promoted thousands of social, political and ethical values of Kashmiri people. Kashmiri language is real representative of their emotions, thoughts and feelings.
Department of Kashmiri is one among the oldest departments of GDC Shopian . The department has taught hundreds of students and produced many scholars and intellectuals who are serving the society in different fields. Department of Kashmiri offers different courses to students like skill enhancement course in Kashmiri and generic elective. The department imparts the knowledge of origin of Kashmiri language, Kashmiri grammar, morphology, Kashmiri prose and poetry and importance of translation in Kashmiri language to the students.

Vision

The department envisions achieving high standards of academic performance to provide quality education to students, equip students with knowledge and skills in their chosen stream and to provide opportunities for students to realize their full potential and thus shape them into future leaders to address the emerging challenges of the society, who homebased the alien.

Mission

The mission of the department of Kashmiri consists of two inter connected components; imparting the highest quality instruction to our undergraduate students and to train students in the methods and ideas of modern theoretical and applied Kashmiri.

Message from Head of the Department

The Department of Kashmiri is one of the oldest and main department of GDC Shopian. It refers courses in Kashmiri language as one of the subjects in bachelors of arts and it attracts the large no of students at the undergraduate. Since it is inception, the department has been committed towards promoting high quality and relevance teaching. During the last years, the department has carved out a niche in the Kashmiri and many of its alumni have distinguished themselves in both academic and administrative spheres at national level.
The department has one faculty member who is well respected author and scholar, and is active in teaching, research and professional service.
Teaching and learning at the department are focused on proper blending of ‘excellence’ and ‘relevance’. We provide a balanced approach focused on both theoretical as well as applied Kashmiri. This not only prepares students to embark on challenging careers upon graduation, but to pursue advanced degrees in their areas of their interests.
The department of Kashmiri is the hub of a no of academic and seminars and symposia.
