About

Islamic Studies is an engaging discipline housing many correlative and multidisciplinary subjects, Islamic history and civilization, Islamic jurisprudence, Comparative religions, Islamic philosophy and thought, Islamic economics and finance, Public policy in Islam, Islamic societies, Islamic art, Islamic architecture and urban planning, Islamic ethics and bioethics are taught with fervor throughout the world.

It is an important academic discipline of religious studies, humanities, and social sciences. Its main aim is to study knowledge in an integrated way; primarily focusing on Divine knowledge through basic religious texts (Qur’an and Ḥadīth). It studies legacy of Islamic civilization, theological and philosophical developments, Tasawwuf, social and legal sciences of Islam, inter-faith dialogue and Muslim contribution to physical and natural sciences. It is never exclusively orientalism or traditional madrasa system of education or even area studies but an inter-disciplinary and modern way of studying Islam, its civilization and sciences to develop a broader understanding of Islam and Muslims viz-a-viz inter-religious and inter-civilizational harmony.

It has outreached to many Institutions at National and International Level and is taught at prestigious institutions globally including Shah Hamadan Institute of Islamic Studies ,University of Kashmir, Islamic University of Science and Technology Awantipora, Central University Kashmir, BGSBU, Jammu.

Aligarh Muslim University , Jamia Milia Islamia, Jamia Hamdard, Maulana Azad National Urdu University.

Many of the universities in US, UK and Middle East. Thus having a broad scope of growth socially and spiritually.

Vision

The vision of the Department of Islamic Studies consists of making Islamic Studies relevant in the contemporary changing world and enabling students to play a constructive role in the Development and welfare of the society, country and world at large. The Department strives to reach standard of excellence in teaching and research. It aims:

• To provide our students with effective teaching and modern research techniques.

• To provide our students with appropriate analytical skills to work in different multidisciplinary fields.

• To enhance the path of intellectual transformation among the undergraduate and post graduate students.

• To enable our students to become leaders in the academic field and actively engage in all diverse facets of human society in the light of Islamic world view.

Mission

The Mission of the Department stands in promoting authentic information about Islam. We aim for collaborative work and promote the multidisciplinary nature of the subject . Introducing Islam in the Contemporary times and dealing with the current challenges.
