About

The Department of Food Technology at GDC Shopian was established in 2018. The department is equipped with basic infrastructure including a well-maintained laboratory and qualified resource personnel. The Department aims to provide students with basic knowledge of the subject and to familiarize them with different real-world applications of the course.

The Department envisages itself as an educational center in the field of Food Science & Technology that aims to propagate multi‐disciplinary approaches for safe, nutritious, and sustainable foods.

Mission

The mission of the B.Sc. Food Science and Technology program is to provide students with a strong foundation in the scientific principles and practical applications related to food production, processing, preservation, quality control, and safety. In alignment with the National Education Policy (NEP), the program emphasizes a multidisciplinary and skill-oriented approach to learning, fostering critical thinking, problem-solving abilities, and innovation in the field of food science.
The program aims to prepare graduates who can address current and future challenges in the food sector, including sustainability, food security, nutrition, and public health. Through a blend of theoretical knowledge and hands-on experience, students will gain expertise in areas such as food microbiology, food chemistry, food engineering, product development, and regulatory standards.
