Research Areas:

My research focuses on the historical development of non-agrarian economies, particularly in colonial and post-colonial South Asia. I am deeply interested in understanding the evolution of industries, trade networks, and services, with a specific emphasis on the economic history of Kashmir between 1885 and 1989. My work examines the dynamics of continuity and change in regional economies and explores how socio-political transformations shaped economic structures. I am also interested in the broader themes of industrialization, labour history, and the intersections of colonial policies with local economic practices in South Asia.

Teaching Interests:

My teaching interests lie in economic and social history, particularly the economic transformations of South Asia during the colonial and post-colonial periods. I aim to engage students in understanding the complexities of non-agrarian economies, such as trade, industries, and services, and their role in shaping regional and global histories. Additionally, I am keen to teach courses on the economic history of Kashmir, methodologies in economic and social history research, and themes of continuity and change in historical economic systems. My teaching emphasizes critical thinking and interdisciplinary approaches to exploring historical narratives.
